A week ago, Christina L., an animal rescuer, spotted a friendly stray cat running across a parking lot. Curious, she followed the cat and was stunned by what she discovered.

She found a younger cat lying next to a tiny kitten. Nearby, about two feet away, was a plastic tub that had been turned into a makeshift shelter for feral cats. Inside, there were two litters of kittens being cared for by the stray who had led Christina to them.

The older cat, named Taylor, is the mother of the younger cat, and both had given birth just two weeks apart.

“The only bedding in the bin was leaves collected from the bare patio floor,” Christina explained. “The young mom wasn’t feeding her kittens, while Taylor was doing her best to nurse all of them—her own babies as well as her fragile grandchildren.”

Without hesitation, Christina reached out to Stephanie Grantham, founder of Sparkle Cat Rescue, to ask if she had supplies to help feed the smaller kittens.

There was a colony of cats in the area, but it wasn’t a safe environment for them. “Our local shelter wouldn’t accept them, and they couldn’t stay at the property,” Stephanie explained to Love Meow. Members of the rescue community came together to bring the cats indoors.

Stephanie took in Mama Taylor and her five kittens at her rescue. She also provided supplies for another compassionate individual who began bottle-feeding the smaller surviving kittens and caring for two others they managed to rescue. Additionally, another volunteer opened her home to the younger mom cat and another cat in need of a safe haven.

It took a village, but thanks to tireless efforts, all of the cats were safely rescued.

Taylor, named after the pop star Taylor Swift, was incredibly talkative and social. She explored the interior of the car before returning to her crate to care for her demanding five kittens.

As soon as Taylor lay on her side, her kittens quieted down, drawn to her gentle chirps and purrs. They snuggled up to her as they made their way to their foster home with Erin and Lauren.

“Taylor is such a sweet, trusting girl, and she settled in almost right away,” Erin shared with Love Meow.

“We placed her babies in the playpen with a cozy bed, food, and a litter box, and she watched us the entire time, occasionally making a few comments to her babies,” Erin shared.

“Once she was sure they were comfortable, she dove into getting snuggles from us. She really loves to be loved on.”

Taylor is grateful for the kind humans who are helping her raise her last litter. Her five kittens—Chloe, Sami, Sophia, Marcus, and Clara (all named after Taylor Swift’s latest album)—are beginning to eat on their own.

As the kittens shuffle around the playpen, practicing their wrestling skills, Taylor is able to relax and enjoy some well-deserved time for herself.

“Taylor (the Chairman) seems content to have us nanny the kittens, but if they need her, she’s quick to step in and comfort them. The babies, or ‘interns’ as we like to call them, are at that stage where they love to wrestle with each other—and even with us.”

The kittens are perfecting their walking and coordination, and soon, they’ll have the entire room as their playground, zooming around with reckless abandon.

Taylor and her kittens, once-forgotten felines, are now thriving in their foster home, all thanks to the kindness of many dedicated volunteers. They will never have to endure another day outdoors and will be cherished in a warm, loving home from now on.
