Last month, a kind-hearted Good Samaritan discovered two kittens lying next to their mother, a cat who did everything in her power to protect and feed them.

While the kittens managed to survive the harsh streets, sadly, their mother did not. The finder took them to an emergency clinic, and the pair eventually found their way to a local shelter.

Shelter staff reached out to the rescue community, hoping to find a dedicated foster home for the kittens to give them the best chance at survival. Nadija, a foster for AnimalLuvr’s Dream Rescue, immediately stepped up to help.

The brother (ginger) and sister (gray) were found outside when they were two weeks old

“They were about two weeks old, a little dehydrated, but they loved their bottle,” Nadija explained.

The next morning, she entered the nursery to the soothing sound of the kittens’ tiny purrs. The feline siblings had a faux mama with a heartbeat for comfort and a soft blanket that they kneaded eagerly.

When they weren’t feeding, the kittens cuddled up together, often snuggling on top of one another. The gray kitten (the sister) would wrap her arm around her brother (the ginger) or drape her body over him for added comfort.

Every 1-2 hours, Nadija would check on the kittens. The moment the bottle appeared, the little gray kitten would wake up and cry for food. “Little Miss always has plenty to say, and the ginger boy is constantly on the move,” Nadija shared.

Meanwhile, in another foster home, a fluffy gray kitten was in desperate need of companionship.

The lone kitten had been frail and malnourished when rescued, but thanks to the tireless efforts of his caregiver, he regained his strength and began seeking affection.

His foster mom noticed how much he longed for a constant companion and reached out to Nadija to see if she could take him in. Without hesitation, Nadija welcomed him with open arms.

“He’s the same age as my little ones, and he’s been working hard to catch up with his new friends,” Nadija shared.

The brother and sister duo instantly welcomed the newcomer, including him in their nap-time snuggle pile.

The new kitten has gained weight, and his appetite has improved. Being surrounded by other kittens of similar size motivates him to eat more and stay more active.

He no longer feels lonely and has become more adventurous, exploring his surroundings with curiosity.

“He’s even shouted at me for second meals, which is music to my ears. His energy is up, and he’s playing with toys and wrestling with the other kittens,” Nadija shared.

“Fuzzy guy is fitting in perfectly with the two chunkers. This handsome young man is the first of the three to use the litter box, and I couldn’t be prouder of him.”

Now, all three of them eagerly meow in unison whenever their foster mom enters with food in hand.

The two boys demand their meal from atop a scratching post while their sister calls out from the floor. The smell of their food sends them into a frenzy of excitement.

At 4-5 weeks old, they are finally ready to try their first solid food.

“They will continue to be bottle-fed while weaning until they no longer want the bottle, but it’s crucial to supplement them, as they won’t be eating enough on their own at first.”

Despite their challenging beginnings, the brother and sister are now thriving, enjoying their best lives with a new feline friend they absolutely adore.
