A tabby kitten named Kickers arrived at Chatons Orphelins Montreal alongside her five siblings. Four of them were born with varying leg malformations, each facing unique challenges.

Determined to walk and run on all fours, the kittens began a hopeful journey with the support of dedicated volunteers. At just seven weeks old, they entered their foster home and wasted no time showering their carers with affection.

Even with their impaired legs, Kickers and her siblings showed incredible spirit, scooting around with enthusiasm and exploring their space with the same playful curiosity as any other kittens.

Kickers, with one bent paw, would eagerly hobble over to greet her carers whenever they entered the room. “Unlike some of her siblings who had two malformed legs, Kickers had just one that curved inward. We fitted her with a splint as soon as she arrived,” the rescue team explained.

Surprisingly, after just one day of wearing the splint, Kickers quickly adapted. She began scampering around effortlessly, as though the splint had always been a part of her.

Kickers’ siblings also underwent treatment to correct their legs and guide them in the right direction. “We utilized their growth spurt to help reposition their paws and enhance their quality of life,” the rescue shared.

With their arms and elbows supported by protective bandages, Kickers and her siblings could now move around without discomfort, no longer hindered by soreness.

As Kickers’ range of motion improved, her curiosity about her surroundings grew, and her playful personality began to shine through. “She has large back paws with extra toes, which only adds to her cuteness when she walks,” the rescue noted.

Her hind paws feature uniquely colored toe beans, and she loves showing them off, especially when she’s demanding attention from her carers.

As Kickers grew more steady on her feet, she encouraged her siblings to play, move, and exercise their arms.

Bottine, the kitten with two twisted front legs and white paws, was almost as active as her littermates, although she often preferred lounging on the couch. Kickers would nudge her to join in the fun, showing her that even with bandages on, they could explore, create mischief, and even climb a mountain of pillows together.

Kickers also makes sure her two brothers, Paxx and Maxou, are never left out, always keeping them company and encouraging them to join in the fun.

“After just ten days, Kickers’ paw had nearly straightened completely. She could finally land on her paw pad and immediately started running around. She was overjoyed to be able to play like any other kitten.”

“Now that her paw is fully functional, Kickers runs on all fours, having a blast wherever she goes. Her right front leg has gained significant strength and is about 80% straight.”

Kickers has blossomed into a confident young cat, always the first to explore new things and share them with her siblings. “She’s bursting with energy and remains close to her littermates. As soon as they’re ready for a nap, they come to us for cuddles and purrs.”
